Does a guide pick listing increase link pop?

About listed my site as a guide pick (1 of only 8 listed for my category). I am getting real good traffic from the listing but I was wondering if this will help in link pop, specifically with the Google page ranking.

Also the link to our site is a redirect (About is counting outbound traffic).

Example: http:*//category.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.mysite.com/

Does About allow the major crawlers to index these links?

the new "Guide Pick" designation you are seeing at the top of the page your site is listed under will not increase your link pop anymore than it already was before 'guide pick' appeared.

"Guide Pick" was merely added to every guide's subject pages since some are now showing "Sponsored Sprinks Listings" on the same page - they wanted to differentiate between editorial and paid listings.

the offsite counter should not adversely affect any crawling by major SE's.

That's what I thought. Many people think the opposite.

Anyhow, I just checked their robots.txt and found a Disallow: /gi/ which means those links aren't being counted anyhow. I'm not complaining- they refer a lot of traffic.

Thanks. ;)

hi keymaster,

as far as i know the /gi/ only exists as a directory for Guide use ( i could be wrong on that.

But, i knew i had seen it before & i just found an example of Inktomi crawling through the About Subject pages & ranking other sites, check #8 on this search [search.msn.com]
