Is there any benefit to being listed here besides standard link pop?

Any connection between that and [joeant.com...] - they are both started by X-GO Guides I think?

Is there a third site out there that is from ex-Go Guides as well?

What's to make this directory better than the largest one out there: Dmoz.org?

There are at least a dozen former "go guides" sites. The amount of spam, email, and promotional posts they've created in various forums is getting tired.

Talk to us when they hit 2.5 million urls...

Ditto what Brett Tabke said.

And I guess we will continue seeing X-Go Guides sites popping up. What amazes me is that all them are more or less organized on the "Go Guide System": nothing new, nothing better.
Actually, this article [aaron.subportal.com] applies to all.

To answer some of your questions:

Joeant.com is not associated with GoGuides.Org I know a lot of the particpants at joeant.com and I think there is room for both of us.

I hope not that you see my post as spam regarding GoGuides.Org

But to get back at what makes GoGuides.Org different or more special than others human edited directory.

At the moment the range of sites entered is limited to the topics that has GoGuides of course. But I and the rest of the team hope that we can continously enhance and evolve the directory to make it one that is valued throughout the net.

Our goal is to keep submissions for the directory free now and for the future.

Maybe the reasons why you are seeing so many posts from GoGuides and mails around the net is the lack of shared community and that common purpose.

To help guide people to quality sites in each topic.

We still believe that there is room for a directory like GoGuides on the net. And we do it, because we want to dedicate our time in creating this site and because we like doing it.

Remember back in the old days. The protocols was not enhanced by companies but by dedicated individuals - for free.

That is what makes the Net worthwile. A lot of information is free to gain access to.
Itīs in my view the core or the spirit of the internet. And should be it.

It's good to see some new directories popping up from former Go Guides, but it really does seem that the road to "visibility" if you will, is going to be a tough one. ODP is the king here. Zeal (alomst 400,000 listings) and HotRate with probably over 100,000 generate a very minimal amount of traffic.

A strategy for new directories popping up might be to pick a niche, and work to creat the most comprehensive directory on a particular topic. Such a strategy would not require the categorization of as many sites, and by specializing and focusing on a particular topic of which editors are particularly knowledgable, they could may be able to improve on the structure and categorization of the sites when compared to ODP, YAHOO!, & LS.

I hope someone has the URLs, links, addresses, or at least names of these sites. I would love to see them and say howdy to old GO friends.
