The goal of my site is two-fold:
1. To be a great resource for web surfers to find industry-specific search engines and web directories.
2. To assist small businesses in promoting their website on the internet.
I think you visit the site, I have put together a simple, easy-to-understand website that will help people find the best search engines for their specific searching needs. The site is advertising-free (and probably will be for the next 6-12 months)
With that said, I would like to get the site listed with ODP to help drive traffic to the site. I have developed the following thus far:
TITLE: Access Search Engines
URL: [access-search-engines.com...]
DESC: Directory of search engines and web directories. Free search engine submission and ranking guide for internet businesses.
(I believe my description hits upon the two goals of my site)
PLACEMENT IN DMOZ: [dmoz.org...]
and
[dmoz.org...]
I look forward to your replies because I look forward to offering my service to general web surfers and small internet businesses.
Thank you very much. - Bradley
We're also not just a "submission and ranking guide" because, to me, that refers to my own website.. I think we are better classified as a "search engine submission and ranking guide" because, to me, that indicates we're not just about my site, but rather the multitude of search engines and web directories on the internet.
Air, I'm definitely **not** trying to pin you down specifically... I'm just trying to justify my own reasoning for creating this description. Thanks for your comments. I think this will help me support my reasoning if this becomes an issue. Thanks again for taking the time to review and respond to my post.
Each category in ODP has its own guidelines. The category guidelines should never contradict the directory guidelines, but rather hone those to suit the category.
You will notice that in the Business category, the descriptions are shorter than in, say, Society. In Computers, deeplinking is acceptable and indeed encouraged when appropriate, while Business generally only allows one listing.
There are others, each created by virtue of necessity as the character of submissions to a particular category proved to be whatever it proved to be for each cat.
Because of the different category guidelines, you would probably be better off submitting to [dmoz.org...]
