Using Dmoz Data- Will it be considered Duplicated content

Lots of webmasters are using Dmoz data on their websites. Wouldn't it be considered as Duplicated content?

Yes, which is why out of more than 1000 sites using it, only a few dozen are ever seen in the regular SERPs.

I don't know if you are right.

In my niche I can see several competitors having thousand of pages, using Dmoz data, and they rank fine.

The trick they use is "embedding" the Dmoz content in their "template": every page has the links to their real page and a few new content...

I don't think Google considers that pages as duplicate pages.

Another trick is that they use this system to exchange links... There are several sites that exchange links in an automatic or semi-automatic way: having several sites listed in the Dmoz directory they exchange links with good sites....
