Just wanted to know if it is worthwhile to submit information based sites to Yahoo directory which are useful for readers.
I have an informational site on aeromodelling, with original content written by me.
It is my hobby site & has 20 pages.
No ads or affiliate advtg etc on this site.
Should I try for free listing?
How long does it take for approval?

I've had sites listed in Yahoo for free in the recent past, within a couple of weeks of submission. I've also had similar sites not get listed. If you have an eligible site, then I think it comes down to luck of the draw, but yes, there is a chance that you'll get in.

Well the Yahoo 'business'directory will cost you some bucks, but being in the regular yahoo index you can do for free.

It's well worth trying - I too have had some sites listed very fast recently, even got a couple with sunglasses.

What I have noticed is the reviewers seem to like blogs as part of a site. Make sure your site is looking spiffy, no bad links, everything working right and then give it a go.

What it is worth is another issue - I get virtually no visitors from the directory, even for the two "cool" sites which appear at the top of their categories. But it's a link, and if you get it easily from a good source a link is always worth having.

You will start appearing on scraper sites all over the place as soon as you are listed - though I have not been aware of that doing any particular harm.

Here is a true story. I submitted to the paid Yahoo directory in Dec 2001 and paid the fee of 299.

At the end of the year I decided not to renew for another year, not because I did not believe in Yahoo directory, but I could not see spending all that money again to renew for another year.

To my surprise my listing still is in the directory and has been ever since even though I decided to cancel the paid version.

Now I don't know if my site has been over looked or if their policy is once you have submitted and paid for it at least once maybe they keep it in their directory.

Not sure but its a true story.
