PPC vs. "Monthly Fee" Directory.

Benefits, Positioning?

Hello All,

I'm in the process of releasing a very niche based directory, which caters to business. There are a couple sites in this niche which provide directories on a PPC basis, however, there are none that offer a "flat fee" monthly basis - i.e// non ppc directory.

I am confident i can build a successful directory in this niche, however, im' unsure whether to go with a PPC engine or a "standard directory" (non-PPC).

What are some of the benefits / disadvantages of either? There has been some talk of "fraudulent clicks" on the PPC engines, so i'm thinking about positioning this directory as a non-PPC directory with a "low flat fee" and no worries about fradulent clicks($30/mth).

Whats your opinion? PPC or non-PPC? Benefits, Disadvantages, and possible ways i can position a non-ppc directory as a "good alternative". I'd also like to position it in such a way as it's not a "competitor" but rather another avenue to advertise your "goods".

As far as I can see, you submit to a directory more for the search engine presence than the actual visitor clicks, thus, Monthly Fee makes more sense (and is much less coding!)

with small general directories they can be ran for one off fees, but if you are doing a niche one and work hard to promote it then recurring fees should be a good option. just make sure you add some quality resources free to help build the database
