Reciprocal Links And Promotions

Hi all,

I know when I talk of SEs , it is nothing but dumbo robots , for it any "to and fro link" is reciprocal link , no matter what my intentions are.

Let me get to my point, one of my friend is starting a directory and have asked me to help. He want to allow free listing and also want a rating system.

site.com links to dir.com/site22/rate.html - remember not linking to homepage of dir.com

will it harm dir.com , his aim is people rating it and he will arrange it accordingly, its a promotional stuff but do dumbo SE algo understand that?

How should I go about it?

That should work fine. Lots of sites use similar "vote for this site" or "rank it" type promotions successfully. It shouldn't hurt in the search engines, plus will bring you some visitors.
