Lets say I sell the good ol' widget and I want to create a diretory that only contains links that pertain to widgets like parts, accessories, etc. for widgets..and nothing else like sports, entertainment, etc.

How effective would that be? Anyone have an experience with this kind of directory?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com], kazecoder.

Sounds like a good old-fashioned niche directory. They work well, but the question is: how are you going to monetize it? Is there enough of a market to charge for inclusion, or are you going to run affiliate ads or Adsense on it?

Well, I honestly believe that there is enough of a market to charge for inclusion but I would still probably try to run ads just as a back up also.

make sure your intent is clear. I think sometimes you can do a bit better by keeping it ad free to show the clear intent of the directory...some directories are made specifically to sell adwords ads though. both work in different markets.
