i would like to setup a directory

what program should i use?

Hi,
I want to setup a directory , where people can add their sites etc - and hopefully i can generate some traffic to their sites and start charging for the advertising.

Can someone suggest a program to use, it must be fully search engine optimized. PHP or ASP? preferably free.

Any ideas?

are you referring to the directory script here: [site-directory.org...]

lots of people use that site directory script. If you use it try to modify it a bit so that it looks unique. many directories use that script, including:
[goguides.org...]
[bluefind.com...]
[uncoverthenet.com...]

if you use that script some people they have had security issues with it. I do not know what the problem exactly was, but I would recommend deleting the category uninstall and directory uninstall pages from your server if you use that script.

many other directories use that script and do not modify it much. if you use it make sure your copy looks original.

I also would recommend staying away from using a DMOZ clone.

They had hidden code that would reveal your Database password to them. Check it before you use it. Now they have a new version, but that has built inclusion from their database, but you can clean that too. Needs work before being used.
