DMOZ: I Love You But ...

DMOZ frustration on a hot Summer day

I love DMOZ but I'm frustrated that they NEVER take my site into the directory. It's a very good site, filled with great information about real estate and personal finance.

Why won't they add it?

Can anybody here help me? Is there a way to contact DMOZ and ask them the status?

I submitted many, many months ago. Then I again submitted many months ago. And, now, I have recently re-submitted to other categories. Nothing seems to work.

Since skibum cut up your post, I won't bother addressing the issue of the site in your profile having an extremely short editing history and then ranting about how people assume editors hate their site when there are other logical reasons for the way things are.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

What do you mean when you say the site has a short editing history?

I'm not ranting against the editors, as I know they are overworked and unpaid. Rather, I'm just trying to understand if there's a reason for why the site never gets into DMOZ and what I can do about it.

Thanks for your help.

>> ...what I can do about it <<

The only bits that you can control are:

1. What is on the site: the title, site navigation, and on-page content.

2. The title and description that you use when you suggest your site.

After that there is nothing more that you can do. It is out of your hands.

Have you asked in the ODP forum whether the site is in "not by the hair of my chinnie-chin-chin" state, or just "I'm thinking! I'm thinking!"

Thanks for the tip. I found the ODP Forum today and will ask there. The only thing is I can't even remember when I submitted it and to what subdirectories -- it seems they need that info.

I guess I just have to submit again, write it down, and wait a month to ask. Oh well.
