Basically, i'm not asking about yahoo and the like, but more along the lines of submitting a business site to galaxy, joeant, goguides, etc...
Is it worth the money? Anyone out there with experience in this?

Don't expect a flood of extra traffic from these submissions but I have noticed a few extra hits a day trickling through from the smaller directories such as joeant and webworldindex. Yahoo and business.com are the PR 5 and 6 star generals of the directory world, but every good campaign needs a few PR 2, 3 and 4 foot soldiers to man the trenches :)

Yes Directories can be of real benefit to your website, for reasons of passing page rank to your site. The direct click-thrus are usually neglible, but we have had good PR boosts from directories.

Don't forget to search out specialty (niche) directories for your topic.
Depending on the topic and marketing of the directory some niche directories can provide significan traffic.

Personally I find listings in directories like Joeant, Skaffe, Gimpsy and the like worth it. Direct traffic may be small for now, but there is some. Residual traffic is there or will be. Besides, who knows how expensive and hard to get into they will be in the future. They are affordable now and even have some ROI.
