DMOZ directory - google directory

How long for google to take over ODP results?

I got 2 new dmoz entries a few weeks ago. One of them is already in the google directory - the other one isn't.

Does this depend on how deep the category in DMOZ is or are there any other criteria?

Site 1 is in: World: Deutsch: ... : ... : ...
Site 2 is in: World: Deutsch: ... : ... : ... : ... : ... : ... : ... : ... : ... : ...

Thx,

Tobias

Google only updates its copy of the Open Directory a few times per year. It does not seem to matter where in the ODP a site is listed - the directory data for all categories is in two large files (structure and content) that the ODP publishes every week (usually some time on Wednesday). You may well have to wait for some months yet.

Even though Google only update the directory when they fell like it. They are very active in spidering the directory, so you will at least see the backlinks from the ODP if the PR is high enough. The Google directory usualy has more PR than Dmoz.

What's strange about this is that the site that is listed in the google dir got the dmoz link after the site that isn't listed.

That is odd. Maybe they skipped updating that category due to some data corruption or something.

Can you correlate anything with the "RDF file: error list" that one of the editors publishes each week?

(Footnote: due to ongoing conversion of the whole ODP data to UTF-8 which has been happening for many weeks now, there may well be some UTF-8 encoding errors in some categories)

Where can I find that list? I just checked dmoz and didn't find anything...

The UTF-8 conversion could possibly be the problem as the category uses several german umlaute (Nat%c3%bcrliche_Sprachen/Indoeurop%c3%a4ische/). So "ü" converts to "%c3%bc".

Does anybody know more about this?

[rdf.dmoz.org...] and [esw.w3.org...] and [rainwaterreptileranch.org...]

A Google search for "errors in odp rdf file" brings useful results.
