Which directories should I concentrate on? In Denmark there are very few directories that matter anything at all so it will really be a challenge for me to get used to this wealth of directories.
English does have its definate advantages. The usual list of main directories to submit to include:
Skaffe.com (Become an editor/Pay/or Free options.)
Joeant.com (Become an editor/Pay/ options.)
Dmoz.org (Become an editor/Free (and wait) options.)
Gimpsy
Websavvy
Goguides
Zeal
Yahoo
Currently, I personally use the top three and the rest seems to take care of itself.

(ukgimp, I never suspected that there is a Macchiavellian side to your personality! ;) )
I have begun submitting my website to those directories. Works VERY different.
1. One directory simply refused my URL. They did not like www.my-domain.dk/~myenglishwebsite/. I don't understand what's wrong with having several websites on one domain, but it's their directory and their choice of policy. I would not dream of complaining.
2. For some directories submitting is very easy. Find the right category, fill in URL, title and description and then submit. And wait. Perhaps they will accept my website very soon, perhaps they will take a very long time and perhaps they will never accept it. Be that as it may. They owe me nothing.
3. And then there are some directories whose procedures have given me difficulties of one kind or another. For some of them I still have not been able to submit my website.
But quite frankly I'm in no hurry. Right now I am more interested in creating more content. I have taken the first small steps to make my website visible for visitors and webmasters who are interested in its category.
If I do not succeed in submitting my website to those other directories their editors will in due time find it without my help. And in the meantime I can do it no harm by creating more and better content.
