What directories are worth paying for to be included in and what directories allow free submission. Any detailed discussion or if there are any forum discussions on this matter you can show me, let me know?
thanks
Steve

If you can get a high category level Business.com is a steal at $99/yr. I also usually submit to JoeANT ($40 or, free and quick to become an editor) Skaffe ($39.99, free since I am an editor) GoGuides ($39.99, free since I am an editor). DMOZ is free.

there are also ways to find topical directories and other directories taking submissions for your category.

search for

keyword + add url
keyword + directory
keyword + submit site
and stuff like that

Gimpsy provides free submit - but the wait is long. You can opt for fast track review for $40. Is it worth it? You'll have to decide...

If I had $250 per month to promote my commercial website, what would be my most viable options.

Hang on - Surely talking about being an editor for Skaffe and it's pricing - I think that's PROMOTION.

I see that you didn't delete that.

Try divxtoday.com - branded as Super Sites.

Entries go in on the day, new categories can be added, good PR, no annual renewals - they offer a $35 permanent lifetime entry in their directory. Few competing links. Worked for me.

bigtravelguide.com if obviously in travel, but they manually check all listings before acceptance and every month recheck and remove duplicate and rubbish....
