Building a Directory

what do we need to consider?

I was talking with another web designer and we both decided to work together. First time I've worked with someone else before. We decided to make the biggest and best Australian Music directory we already have more links than any other directory....
What else needs to be considered before this site goes live?

there will be no revenue, like most directories, this is a voluntary contribution directory

In that acse have you looked into MusicMoz, at least to team up with?

The best way to build a directory is by voluntary contribution, it more fun and you enjoy doing it if you put the money aspect to one side, that will come in time when you have built up your loyal users.

11 hits on first day, 84 hits on the 2nd day of going live. Not bad I dont think.
I've only sent about 300 emails asking for links.....still many more to send.

Is it going to be crawlable by the search engines? Do you track which urls are getting clicked the most? Can you run adsense, or other sponsered advertising? Can you backfill it with ODP data - it would save some time.

we already have more australian music links than the odp and musicmoz. yes it is crawlable. I am looking into adsense.
