The difference shows up when I check for backlinks in ATW. One site shows all these backlinks to these open directories (too many to count) while the other shows only the main DMOZ backlink.
I am not sure how the one site got submitted to all these open directories. My question is how do I get the other site listed in all the directories?
Whether your site shows up in those directories depends on when they last updated their database from dmoz - some update very regularly, many still show copies from three years ago or more. In the directories that show as backlinks for one site, does your other site actually exist in those?
The traffic and PR benefit is virtually none from virtually all users of the dmoz RDF dump as their homepage PRs are too low to pass on anything to the listed sites.
I believe that this depends on how much they modify what they get from ODP. Those who use essentially unmodified content have PR zero (probably dups), the others have low PR.
There is not much difference between the two categories when it comes to transferring PR. The dups have zero to transfer. But the non-dups are not much better.
Today, dmoz.org has PR 9 and the category I am in has PR 4, which is 5 units below the top. So if a dmoz clone has PR 4 or 5 on their home page, not much is left by the time you go down the categories to where I am listed :(
Not only do clones give you almost no PR, they give you close to absolutely zero visitors. That, of course, excludes the mega clone: diretory.google.com :)
