Forum Moderators: open
Within the pool of unreviewed sites, most editors are probably drawn early to the sites with guidelines-compliant titles and descriptions, particularly as these are usually something of a rarity. If you wrote your submission well then you've effectively put yourself at the head of the queue.
This is not to be taken as a general manner of editing, it is purely the method I use as an editor in both directories where I edit. Other editors may and do have their own methods.

You may or may not have chosen the most appropriate category for your submission. If not, that likely will add to the time necessary for a final determination of whether your site is listed.
The suggested title and description you submitted may or may not be spot on with odp guidelines. If not, sites which are guidelines compliant will likely be addressed before yours.
The category you selected may or may not have a highly active editor in that cat or the cat immediately above it.
If you have minded your p's and q's, let it sit and move on to setting up other quality links in and out of your site.
We would like to point you to a place where you can get that advice, but postings mentioning that forum get removed by the moderators here. Sorry, but we are unable to help you in any way in this place.
If anyone can sticky mail me the right area/person to contact to see the status of my site on DMOZ, that would be great and within the rules.
The deal with DMOZ is pretty simple: submit, wait three months, enquire, wait three months, enquire, wait three months, enquite, wait three months.
If you're lucky enough to get put straight in the good for you - but don't hold your breath. Just let it be and look for other directories. DMOZ isn't worth an ulcer.
There must be alot of people that simply are not taking time to read all the submission guidelines.
I have submitted 3 sites to D... in the last 3 months. All were submitted to different categories, all were commercial, and they were submitted a few weeks apart from each other.
All 3 sites were reviewed within 1 week. One site was rightfully rejected, and the other 2 were accepted, within a week.
The sites took about a month to appear in the results though. Before the site was updated into the results (and after it was accepted) I was able to find it in D... by doing a search on my title or descriptions keywords. I was also able to see the listing by typing in my .com address.
I have found R Z to be very helpful and was given a clear explanation of why one of my submissions was rejected. From what i can see and have experienced, there are a lot of dedicated people working hard on improving D.
