Why?
Several of my political clients are in RightPages, which is a web directory sponsored by Townhall.com (a portal for conservative U.S. politics). Traffic is neglible even for "featured sites."
Why?
Very nicely organized - one page for each organization allows for fuller descriptions; and grouped under related keywords which makes it easy to find related websites for each keyword. Only one person manages it, so the quality is consistent, and very few dead links.
Moreover, it makes me realize that there are people around me, who are trying to make the world a better place and that feels good.
