AOL Yellow Pages

Anyone ever used this?

I got a call today from AOL Yellow Pages trying to sell us a listing. Since this wasn't the typical internet marketing sales call (the ones trying to sell you net keywords and the like), I'm considering looking into this.

We don't have a physical store per se (so that aspect of the YP isn't useful to us) but I'm told that we can get nationwide (or similar) packages that are mainly for promoting the website. Has anyone else used it like this successfully?

I've not used them, and neither have any of my clients, but my gut tells me that it's a waste of money.

I've never heard of anyone actually using them to find businesses, have you?

I was kind of thinking that myself. Mainly that I'm not sure how many people would be searching the Yellow Pages for what we sell (it's more an impulse-buy thing).

How much are they asking for, anyway?

I got telemarketed by someone claiming to represent them about 2 months ago - I would be:

1) skeptical that they are who they say they are
2) skeptical of the numbers that they claim - they told me that I would be "available" to the "10 million users of AOL" - but the rep couldn't tell me how many people use the YP, and more importantly how many ppl search keyword X from the YP.

They also work solely on flat fees which makes little sense. Whats interesting is that they seem to have "local reps" that do the cold calling.
