I have been trying to update our category in DMOZ. The computer Guru who originally set-up our site picked a category with few editors, but little to do with our site. Anyhow, I am now going through the process to get us into the correct category. I have been working through the resource-zone. So far I have to say I have got fairly prompt responses and valuable information. So for those frustrated with DMOZ I suggest giving it a try.
We have been in a queue for a number of months. We just got dropped from our old category, but I do not see the new category. I have read that there is some down time between changes. I cannot search for my site either. Any ideas?

As the site has been dropped fom the old category the editor mostly added it to the quene of the new one.

Now it's up to the editor there to review and add. If no editor at the category - eventually an editor in a higher topical will review but just quickly running through a few category around your topic will show that this could be a while, if few editors are available.

Chances are, when you request a category change the editor that gets the change request will be able to transfer your site only to the unreviewed queue of your desired destination category. It could take quite a while to get relisted if the queue in the new category is long.

I guess if a meta or editall happens to get the original request, it might go from being listed in one category to being listed in your new desired category but that is probbaly the exception rather than the rule.

Thought I should give an update…

On changing Category. I was removed from my current category and put in a waiting list for another category. List was very long. I asked for an update on queue time. Another Meta came along and agreed with my position to the point that a new category section is being built. In the interim they put me back in my old category. The Meta said give them a few days to a few months to build the new cat and move everyone.

Additionally, I listed for a regional spot and that was listed in about 4 weeks.:)

Well at this point I would say if you really have a site, then stick with polite as it works………….;)

I will continue to update as this moves forward, which should give a general idea of the timeline.
