Is anyone out there using Europages, and if so, is it worth the -rather high- price?

I never heard of anybody using it.
It may be interesting for b2b, but I doubt that.

Nothing in it for PR - serps are not spidered PLUS urls are redirected.

Thanx, it didn't check for those redirects, but thats indeed a bummer. Guess that's not worth a few hunderd euro's...

I've seen it advertised on Euronews (a low end news channel that cable companies use to pad out dead time on their terrestrial channels in between the late night paid advertising slots and the resumption of nornal programmes.). However in terms of profile, the viewer figures for CNN or Sky News. However in terms of competition, you would really have to ask for usage figures for the directory. The pitch for Europages seems to be a Yellowpages type one that makes its money from the ancilliary products (CD-ROM/Paper Directory). I don't think that the main revenue is made from its directory. When I was working with satellite television, this kind of directory marketing used to be fairly common and was aimed at the higher end of the market. The bigger businesses used to be rather dependent on these paper directories and they used to be priced at anything from 60 Euros to 500 Euros.

Directories as opposed to integrated search engine/directories are not necessarily worth the advertising unless the directory is a niche interest one.

If you are going to target Europe, then it would be better to tailor the marketing plan on a country by country basis. Inclusion in these trades directories (paper/CD) could be useful but you have to look beyond Europages' website and consider it in these terms. The most important aspect is to get the distribution statistics on the usage of these paper/CD directories before you make any decision. If you are looking at a purely web based marketing plan then go for Google or the most used search engine in the particular country you wish to target. Harsh as it may sound, people tend to navigate the web by search engine now.

jmccormac -> thanx. Europages gave me extended figures on usuage, but since I don't really know them, I'm not trusting them blindly.
I already use Google, etc, so I got that covered. But I'm not sure Google is the way for B2B, so I'm looking for sources Businesses are likely to use.
As for the cost, depending on what you want, prices are between 300/400 and 3000 euro.

Just saw Europages being tied in to Lycos.de, coming up under "Branchensuche". Not that this a big kicker, but it looks like Europages is actively trying to expand visibility.
