How does one get into the google directory. Is it only done once a site is listed in ODP? And if there is no editor for a category (which is my case), will that affect making it into google directory?

As I've read it in here many times, the road to Google is paved with ODP.

forgot to mention, I made it into ODP when I finally e-mailed them mentioning my concern for no editor under the category I submitted for a while back. They added me immediately, but with a really really crappy description, but i was just grateful to be in for now. But not in google directory yet...so that's what I am wondering about happening.

The Google directory is the ODP. The problem is that the ODP has had trouble generating their download file for Google. There are any number of threads about it on this forum. As soon as the download is prepared, presumably you'll be in the Google directory.

Google used to download a copy of the RDF every month or so, but there has been no new copy for anyone to download for several months. It is being worked upon, and I'm sure that Google and many others will be sniffing round for an updated file again, quite soon.

The ODP has no control over who actually makes use of the data it produces, nor how often those sites come back for updates; hence there are some sites still using 2 or 3 year old data.

"...but with a really really crappy description.."

The description really does not matter. Nobody uses ODP directly anyway, the only real reason to even get listed is to get listed as being in the Google directory. Since Google does not take what you see from the description in ODP, you could have a blank line and acomplish just as much.
