Forum Moderators: open
Try going to Resource-Zone.com and asking there in the appropriate forum.
Its run by DMOZ editors and designed for you to be able to ask the specific question of "whats happening to my submission?"
<added edit> I did not put the link to resource-zone in as the Moderator is always deactivating my links to it ;) </edit>
Welcome to WebmasterWorld
It depends how busy the editor for the category in which your site is listed. If you look at the bottom it will say whether there is an editor. If you have submitted the change you will just have to wait until it is reviewed. Be careful not to bombard them with emails!
You could try moving up one category and contacting that editor.
Another option would be to go to resource zone
and ask the question about its progress. If one of the nice volunteers takes pity on you they may let you know about its progress.
Cheers and good luck
Two steps to try:
1. Email the editor for the category. If there's no name, move up the tree until you find one.
2. Ask at: Resource Zone
to change my DMOZ URL from www.my-isp/my-page to www.my-domain.
ODP doesn't list redirects. If www.my-domain immediately redirects to www.my-isp/my-page
That's a good point, Grobe does not make it clear if a redirect is involved or not. Grobe needs to accept that a change will not be made if it is merely a redirect.
However if it not a redirect and www.my-domain.com is the final site, then resource-zone.com should be able to give an answer on the state of the submission.
The reason is to prevent site hijackers from copying the entire site to somewhere else, then changing the URL to their site. (Yes, this has been attempted....you guys are in the same business with some former used car salesmen who got fired for being too sleazy...)
If you really want the change made, and it isn't a redirect, and the site is still up at the old location (or perhaps, you have two URLs pointing to the same old location, which is not necessarily the same as a redirect) THEN:
Make sure you post a note on the home page at the OLD location: "We've moved!" or "We're Moving: please bookmark our new URL: xxx." And make SURE that all the internal links are relative (or if you have a fetish for making life difficult for yourself and use absolute links, make sure they point to locations at the NEW address. Also make sure your banner page, etc., contains the new URL and not the old URL.
And then post the update URL request. The editor will (eventually: the "we're all volunteers" speech has already been given in the thread) see the request, look at the OLD site to make sure it's legitimate, and, if the site title, links, banner, whatever, are consistent with the new URL (or, of course, if the old URL no longer works) should make the change.
We don't apologize for all that checking. It's for your protection.
EXCELLENT point, hutcheson. The DMOZ should include this specific situation on the instructions for editors. I hadn't thought about this possibility. However, if the site was up at both places I likely would have rejected the change because of the fact these are mirror sites. Leave the original listing as is, and ignore the mirror.
The ODP definitely should have a tips page to help editors become more "abuse savvy" about possible submissions. There are other possible abuse scenarios that I know of that aren't documented, but I investigate to see whether this might be going on.
