Should I become A Zealot?

How much work is it?

I've got enough points to become a Zealot but I'm not sure if I should do it. Can you add your own sites or client sites then, or is that against the rules?

Just interested in any insights from any Zealots out there.

If it's non-commercial and it fits the category, I believe you can add all that you want.

Stay within the guidelines.

If you are unsure about a submission, just ask a Looksmart editor...they are pretty quick to respond.

I've been amazed at how fast the Looksmart editors and Zealots respond regarding submissions and questions. That is really a great feature about Zeal.

It usually doesn't take too long to become a Zealot - mostly you just need to submit some good (noncommercial) sites and follow the guidelines. If your own site fits the guidelines, then it's fine to submit it...and as you noticed, they're pretty quick to respond if you have questions about anything.

Put a new site up last week; submitted it to Zeal (as a Zealot) and it's #1 on my key search term on MSN this week.

So,the answer's yes and no it's not much work :-)

I don't want to start a Zeal vs ODP debate, but the structure of Zeal and the way it is edited does tend to mean that submissions are processed much more quickly and tend to be of a good standard of editing.

Zeal is much more open in its procedures, and there is much more communication between editors and submitters, editors and editors and editors and staff.

However, it's a much smaller directory and will probably have less of an impact on SE results than the ODP.

(Both Zeal and the ODP are good directories. Go for a listing in both).

A triple amen to that!

There really can be no comparison as both directories are vastly different in goals, approach, and politics.
