Two Listings on DMOZ?

Hello everyone. After lurking for months it seemed to be time to jump in. Since so many of you seem to be just waiting for Google, here's a question to fill your nervous time.

DMOZ says that travel sites may have two listings, one by region and one by subject. I am listed in the regional structure, but am curious about getting into the subject category too. Without offending the editor who, of course, is my.... , anyway;

When I dig down through the subject route, I eventually need to tag the subject with a location (since it is a travel site). This puts me into the regional structure again. If I submit from here is it a duplication of my original submission via regions?

Hi Skier and welcome to WebmasterWorld. The best way to find an appropriate "topical" category is to type into the search box at the root directory the best short descriptive phrase that defines your topics.

E.g. hiking tours, scuba diving, downhilling skiing, whale watching tours, bed & breakfast accommodations, family dining, etc.

Click on the sub-topical directories that appear, and view other listings within that category.

If these listings seem to be quite similar to you (your site) it is a good bet that you fit that category.

Thank you fathom. These forums are marvellous.

I see how it works now and am considering which of several topical subjects will be best. Neat!

If it is a travel site dealing primarily with skiing, you could probably go with this cat:

[dmoz.org...]

(or the appropriate subcat) in addition to regional.

You need to note the "&" signs against categories.

If you had a ski hotel, say, and it is listed under "Regional", then you cannot add the same hotel under "Recreation/Travel/.." as those listing are just linked by the "&" sign to the same regional listing.

DMOZ will therefore not list you under both, as it is in fact the same category.

Thank you Skibum.
Your suggested category is spot on for us. I tried to submit this morning, but DMOZ don't seem to be recieving at the moment. I'll keep trying.
I like these forums (fora?)
By the way, you seem to be working too hard to qualify as a ski bum.

Also thanks to Cornwall. Yes, that is exactly what was getting me mixed up originally. The trail of sub-cats kept leading me back into regional headings. But skibum's suggested category stops before the "&", so it should work.
