Dmoz listing

I didn't submit

Today, for the first time, I noticed a referral from dmoz in my logs.

I didn't submit to dmoz.

Any way I can tell when my site got listed there, other than assuming it just happened (because of seeing the refer)?

It would appear an active editor was looking for sites to add to a category. To find out if you got listed, find the categories most appropriate to your site and scroll through them. Don't try to search via URL or keywords, there is a good chance recently listed sites won't show up.

Yes the site is listed. I looked it up in dmoz by following the referer shown in my logs.

I'm just wondering if there is ay way to tell when it got listed.

I'm surprised it matters when it got listed. Does the domain turn up in a dmoz.org search? (meaning, if you type domain.org does something come up?) If it doesn't, then it must have been added since Sept 28 -- the most recent search database update.

And no, it doesn't turn up in a dmoz search yet.

read fathoms post in the following link. It should have the info you are looking for. Look for one of those extensions in your log files.

An editor can add any appropriate site at their discretion. In fact, to apply to be an editor they ask that you select 3 sites you feel are worthy of inclusion, which obviously shouldn't be your own, you feel are worthy of inclusion.

Look for one of those extensions in your log files.

You should note, however, that ODP editors may use browsers that doesn't send the HTTP referer, or they may use firewalls that filter them out. ;)

Actually, it is very unlikely unless you submit your site yourself that you'd see a DMOZ referrer in the logs. You get that when the editor reviews a site using the DMOZ interface in the queue. If the editor is just surfing the web and adds you, no need for the site to be reviewed from the queue.

I believe this is not true.

Yes, but not necessarily ONLY then.

The DMOZ interface certainly attempts to access the site when an editor adds it from the inside. I know of no reason why it shouldn't give a valid referrer then.

I stand corrected. I happen to be a DMOZ editor and checked this out myself. I entered a page from my main domain as if I were going to add it. The interface went out and grabbed the page to get the HTML title tag that was on that page. Thus for an editor to add your site, the interface indeed will access it and it will show up in your logs.
