Announced about three days ago to editors, but not so widely known elsewhere:
dmoz.org will be off for a couple of hours for maintenance Tuesday a.m. (PST).
It has just been taken down, and expected outage is a couple of hours.
A rare chance to find out if there is life outside the front door.

<add> Waaaaiiitaminute I just noticed the twelve hour discrepancy. Can anyone shed any light? Should I be able to submit an application?

We've just had official word from staff @ ODP:
>> Dmoz may be up and down all day today due to maintenence. <<
See you all tomorrow then.

Seems to have been down continuously for 5+ hours. Figures... I started a way-too-long-delayed editing session (must have been feeling guilty about all the backlog complaints in the other thread!), got two edits in, and blammo... gone... :(

I have never been one to heed warnings. LOL ... life on the edge.

Is there a major problem at dmoz? Is this something that happens a lot?

And it is in fact down, all the way. I hope Dmoz doesn't get dropped from the Google Directory for being absent.... ;)

You know, I think the Powers That Be might be moving the whole doggone thing over to www.odp.com.

Oh boy....they are commercial now huh?
Just out of curiousity....has anyone become an editor?
I submitted an application to edit the category for my city (which is a small tourist town), and never heard a response back.
Should I expect a response even if it is a negative one?
If so, how long?

ODP should be back on within the next few hours if all goes well. If you are submitting anything over the next day or so, keep a copy in your favourite text editor, just in case you need to submit it again (unlikely, but just in case).

I've got no idea what all is working, but ODP is now back up.

stuntdubl Did you get the atomated reciept? You *must* reply to this for the application to enter the queue (it just confirms your email address).
If not, resubmit.
