The search function at ODP is very slow to update. It can take from 2 weeks to a month to start showing a new site in their search.

I had my site Blue widgets.com put into ODP about a month ago but when I type in blue widgets or www.bluewidgets.com it does not appear I tried every keyword combo I could think of but still no luck.

So I gave a quick mail to the editor of the cat and he replied saying it was in a different cat ( which it was )

So my blue widgets site is in odp but can not be found with any keyword even my URL seems a bit pointless really.

But if Korus reckons that it is just a matter of time before they update the search function thats good enought for me.

My word I've just become a full member wish my post had been a bit more worth whille now!

Do I get to learn the secreat handshake or something now?

FWIW - ODP's position is that the search function is only for the editors.

Well, not necessarily just for editors. It's for anyone who wants to do what it does. It just doesn't do much all by itself. But if it doesn't do what you want, then the programming staff, um, I mean THE programmer, isn't going to care much -- because there's enough higher-priority work to keep three programmers busy for years.

"We're not in the search engine business", they say. "Go search in the Google Open Directory," they'll suggest.

I've had good luck on some high-school-reference kind of searches, using DMOZ search as a starting place for browsing DMOZ categories. If that works for you, enjoy. If not, and you feel like hacking the C++ source to make it work: it's open, hack away. Otherwise, no interest.
