Not sure if this applies to anyone here, but if you manage a site with content that is relevant to the GLBT community, you can submit it for free to Rainbow Query [rainbowquery.com]. Site submission is automated (they use meta tag content for the description) but they review them manually. Sites can be commercial, non-profit, or personal pages, as long as they meet the guidelines.

I submitted my site last week and haven't yet been included. Not sure how much traffic they get, but all the sites that come up for my keywords are in my category.

Generally special interest directories, once hyped as Vortals if I remember correctly, are worth the effort.

As long as it is nothing like a FFA, it can bring targeted traffic.
