Let's try to get a system going here. From the results we see, what can we get? Does it take DW pages? Does it use metas? Does it like keyword packed URLs? Cloaking? etc... To work guys, let get a comprehensive list down.

Seems like a good plan, will have a look and see how I'm performing at the moment - might give me some clues

Keyword packed URLs ++
Keywords in Title ++
Keywords at very start of page text +
Repetition of keywords in text + ?
Inbound links ++ ?

Inbound links - doesn't seem to matter about the quality of the link.

my initial reaction to wisenut's serps is that they too closely matched Google's. so i do think the algo is fairly similiar in nature.

Grabs title, chunks of content on page, may default to description if nothing else.

but, this is what i find too odd, this search [wisenut.com] on wisenut, is very similar to the same one Google.

doesn't seem to be that similar to me skiguide.

Similar enough to indicate that algorithms are of a similar nature, but nothing to indicate anything untoward.

I'm getting a few referrals now. Wisenut appears to index <noframes> well.

<added>
I have keywords in the url and title on this one, but it picked up the third key from the noframes section.

How frequent is the update?

At least two weeks - my first batch of sites went at the end of august and they are now listed - second batch went in start of september and aren't listed yet.

Mr Turner, If I had any clout around here I would nominate you for the job of moderating a dedicated forum for wisenut :)

'nother question:

typing in:

link:http://www.yoursite.com

does not seem to offer a true list of links - do you think it recognises the 'command' or simply finds the name of the site within the entire line?

Seems like you (Ian) are very on top of wisenut. I actually haven't been searching for much lately (glued to the TV) but from what I've read here, seems like you are spot on. Well done.

I like their engine, and I'm happy to hear that two weeks seems like their current lag time. That is pretty quick.

I'm pretty sure <b>link:</b> is not recognised as a command, the results seem to split up 'link', 'http', 'www', 'domainname' into seperate uery terms.

Please don't call me Mr. Turner, I'll think that you are some kind of government official.

Jeremy, I only said at least two weeks - it could be more, I am currently waiting for submissions to be included.

Sorry to alarm you, Ian, I'm not an official - governmental or otherwise - I promise.

Next question; if I may:

- any problem with submitting links pages, i.e. links pages which link to me.

would wisenut prefer to receive the index page or do you think they will accept anything?

I'm currently in the process of submitting the pages from sites which link to me - on a couple (well, 3 or 4) per day basis, but I am not submitting their index pages as most seem to be in there already. Does this sound acceptable?

I have no idea stavs, I am not a Wisenut insider. My guess is that they spider from top level URL, if you have links from dynamic pages then these may not get spidered. Submitting them directly may or may not work, you'll just have to experiment, let us know the outcome.

The way I submit these linksis to link back to the linking pages myself (in Google terms from one of my lower ranking pages or sites) this seems to be effective.

Anyway while I was investigating your question - I came across the following link which is a list of Wisenut Investors.

<a href="http://www.wisenut.com/corp/about_investors.html" target="wise">Wisenut Investors</a>

> list of Wisenut Investors.

Good find. So, they have money and plenty of it by the look of that list. I didn't expect there would be so many involved - hope its not a bad omen.

I wonder when they'll start their big marketing push - that will be very interesting indeed. Perhaps they will redesign the format first - again. Its crying out for a bit of subtle colouring and some co-ordinating shades. I know design isn't the be all and end all, but their numerous investors wouldn't want any potential users put off due to its grim appearance.

The 'sneak-a-peak' facility is a nice novelty. I didn't like it at first but growing to like it now. Would prefer a cache though ;)
