Search services at [wisenut.com...]

I must say, for the time it took to actually launch this, does anybody see something I don't?

I tried a couple searches, and the results were good, but not great. In my mind, if you cant' beat google, why bother reinventing a broken wheel?

It did a fair job on my SERPs but the database was skimpy. The top 10 were tolerable and looked alot like AV. Note that they are going after banners (whoopee! big deal) and sponsored keywords, though the write-up is a little vague. [wisenut.com]

This is good news, this week has seen two1 bona fide search engines, worthy of serious attention from webmasters, brought to the fore.

Wisenut look to have some serious backing and claim there will be 800 million URL's in their production dB. Oh and the founder graduated from Stanford with MS in Computer Science in 1995.

1The other being Web Top [webtop.com].

>good news

Yes, the birth of a spidering engine is good news. Three or four good ones is all it takes, but it seems that gaining public awareness is a very hard slog now.

Note the emphasis on Korea? I've been looking for a good place to put this article; South Korea has comfortably retained its status as one of the most Web-crazy places on the planet [www2.marketwatch.com]

Tried a search for our primary very specific kw that is all over the site and we are #11, when on top 10 majors we are mostly #1-3. Top 10 also brought some sites that I never saw before, including 2 results from FFAnet.
Good to have another engine that spiders a lot, but I think something is wrong with their algo.

This engine looks very promising. It seems to rank on versions of AV, Fast, and Google. Very similar to Google in the searches I performed.

They are calling their scheme the "WiseRank" technology. They do not mention anything about LinkPop, but say that pages are ranked a lot on how relevant the whole content is of the page.

This guy started mySimon who sold to CNet. Seems to be plenty of money behind things. This could be interesting indeed.

How fast do they list? If they index quickly and there's a large enough database, it might be a good engine for testing pages. I don't want to encourage spamming their index with junk pages, though.

I've been getting pretty similar responses to google.
Is there any way to submit a site to them? How are they getting their URLs? Spiders only?

On some rankings I've been monitoring, they seem similar enough to Google that I'm thinking a good Open Directory title might be a factor.

In terms of on-page factors, search terms in page title appear to have a larger influence than in Google.
