Ixquick now shows "Highlighted Results"

They look a lot like Google's cached pages...

I just noticed that Ixquick has some new features... It now shows "Highlighted Results," which physically resemble Google's cached pages with highlighting of searched words.

Ixquick doesn't give Google results, so there's definitely no connection there (that would be a trip if they were caching Google's cache... who would have the right to scream?). Actually, when I pay attention I see that the sites are brought up in real time over the web. The highlighting is very clean.

Also, on one result the searched words on a framed page were highlighted. I didn't really note what engines supplied the results on that one to Ixquick, or whether there were links to the framed pages on the original site. Wondering who actually is reading the framed page.

There's also a jump page feature that lets you navigate what seem to be some of the other results, including other pages from the site you've gotten, via a pull down menu.

It's a shame Ixquick isn't returning Google results. Zworks seems to return Google only intermittently. Anyway, it's an interesting set of new features on what had once been my favorite metasearch engine.

Looks like the highlights are only on the US db? Very interesting.

I just looked at that, pretty neat feature. Some of the terms I looked for showed a "highlighted result" via a goto redirect. Kind of a neat way to get people to choose the goto paid listing, instead of going right for the regular one.

It also reminds me of the branding efforts by about and ask where they frame the site they serve to the searcher. Neat idea, and makes me think I need to start putting more javascript into my pages. Something like, "frame = top"...I appreciate their attempt to brand, but I also appreciate a well crafted user experience. One that doesn't involve frames.

Thanks for the heads up Robert.

Hi Jeremy,

I just want to tell you that google don't like metasearch engines, they blocking them. Shame!
Also take a look on the another metasearch engine which I use all the time:http://www.metaeureka.com they have also very nice toolbar.

They are not using a cache It looks like they're parsing the page for the keywords. Anonymizer does basically the same thing. I also noticed some javascripts would not work. Like my almost identical toolbar with js that forces the toolbar frame to the top of the page.
