I came across this regional engine [ezilon.com], Ezilon, while searching for something completely unrelated (and couldn't find a mention of it anywhere on WW). It might be of benefit for some of you if you haven't come across it already.

Press release here [emediawire.com].

Looks like just another Dmoz front end with a pile of non-PR contributing cgi wrappers. Couldn't find much on it really, even in the UK/Ireland section. The tree format of the results is the main similarity to Dmoz. The domain is regeistered via a proxy. The IP seems to be a Verio hosting one. It is early days for this search engine but I don't really think it is a player here in Europe especially the way that the UK is so heavily contested. The least they could have done would be to get hosting on European IP ranges. Interesting find though.

I have analyze this search engine (more of directory, I can say) and found it perfect and very relevant for this region. Truly an European Union (EU) Search Engine, but it looks like they also list other part of Europe too (hmm), then why not say - Ezilon, European Search Engine.

Can they say "new" it seems they started since 2002? I have check the domain registeration. Sorry, maybe they have been out of limelight in the WWW community since then.

They should keep this up and stay on course, wish them luck. - Yogos G.

It is not a very good SE/dir. But it is apparently in early development. It looks like a classic example of a clueless power grab. From the press release:
"ezilon.com provides something most search engines don't have: highly targeted search capabilities." This is easy to sum up in one word - bullsh1t! Most countries in the EU have their own search engines which are far more highly targeted, with far greater content and are far more widely used. These guys are not even in the EU and it remains to be seen if they are on planet Earth.

I've been looking at the Ireland section of their directory and it seems largely empty. Not surprising really. At the moment it looks like just another me-too adverts site without any unique selling point.
