A small question. Should links to other sites (than mine) be opened in a new window? In this way the visitor still have my page available. Are there any drawbacks with this method?

This is mainly a matter of preference and opinion. I open all external links from my sites in a new window. But some find that surfers can get confused with a new window and not realize your site is still underneath the new window (the "back" button will not return a surfer to your site from the new window).
There is no right and wrong, just mainly preference ;)
