Message Too Old, No Replies

Is a link from a PR 7 site still valuable if the link is never used?

Difficult question?

I have to possibility to get a link from a PR 7 website.

The only issue is that the owner want the link to be placed in the order almost nobody will see it.

So the link will propably not be used a lot.

Does Google checks if the link is used or not? And if the link is not used, does he gives the link no value?

Please help me on this issue!

Wouter

Hi Wouter, Welcome to WebmasterWorld.

Does Google checks if the link is used or not? And if the link is not used, does he gives the link no value?

There is no way Google can check if a link on a site other than Google, is used or not. The only thing that gets close to it, is that Google can get info via the Toolbar (when the advanced functionality is enabled for PageRank) about pages someone is visiting. So if people without the toolbar or with the toolbar but the advanced functionality off, click the link, how could Google know that it the link is used?

So just take the offer, and accept this link.

<<PR 7 website>>

Is the page where your link will be placed actually PR7, or is it that the home page is PR7 but your link will be placed somewhere else in the site, on a different page?

Remember that what counts is the PR of the specific page where your link is placed, not the home page.

I can put the link on the homepage, which has a PR7. Do you think this will improve my own ranking (5) a lot?

The PageRank transfer depends on the PR of the page with the link and the number of other links on that page. The PR on the toolbar is a rounded number, so if it is a low 5 it could change into a high 5 (and you still see the same 5 on the toolbar). If it is already a high 5 and the link is shared with only a few other links on that page with PR7, it could go to a (low) PR6.

Hope this helps.

Hmm.. make sure it's not a hidden link! Smallprint should be fine, as in: 'webdesign by yoursite'. Don't know if size 1 links count for Google? Anyway, as long as it's not a hidden link it should be fine.
