Say if i have 20 different domains. And 1 well established site. I then consider to create 20 different sites all on the same topic as of the well established site.
Now, if create a link page in all those 20 domains and link the other 20 domains including the well established site on all the 20 domains, i.e. create 20 reciprocal links on all the 20 sites, then would google consider this "bad linking" or would google reward me with a good PR? If google finds this out, is my 20 sites likely to be banned? Would it harm my well established site?
Also, to get these 20 sites into the google db, if i place an inbound link to all of these 20 domains, would my well established site ever be harmed?
Basically what i am asking is:
1. Would this kind of linking stragety be useful in a long run? or short term?
2. Would it affect my well established site? Harm or Reward?

If you want to build a domain farm for the purpose of boosting a target site you need to plan it carefully.
1. Don't create "link" pages. Use in-context links from the body copy of your sites. Add a few "partner" site links
2. Don't interlink your entire farm.
3. You'll need more than 20 sites.
4. Create some unique non-profit info sites. You can get those sites listed in ODP, Zeal and Yahoo for free. Don't use the same topic for all of your "farm" sites.
5. Create some controversial blogs. People love linking to controversy.
6. Funnel your PR through about 50 sites, more if you can build them. Occasionally remove some links to your target site, add different ones. Change a URL here and there and don't use exactly the same anchor text for all of your links. Use the domain name now and again.
7. I like a mix of about 250 "farm" sites and 50 "funnel" sites to 3 target sites.
8. Continue to seek out stand-alone links to your target sites.
9. Register domain names by proxy.
10. Don't host all your sites on the same server.
11. Create some sites on free hosts.
12. Don't use the same contact info on any of the sites.
13. If you comment your code, don't.
14. Use Kartoo to get a good visual picture on your farm.
15. Submit sites to directories using a proxy.
16. You will find that some sites rack up links much quicker than others. Don't start pointing all of your high PR links at your target site immediately.
17. Link back to very few of your funnel and farm sites.
18. Do link to sites outside of your farm.
19. Don't run any automated processes on your farm, your funnel or your target.
20. Enjoy the results of your labor.

It must get costly having 250 domains! I imagine this strategy is only recommended for sites with very high revenue potential.
Do you have a rule of thumb regarding monthly site revenue required to warrant the type of linking strategy you describe? -Thanks
It will likely be successful in the short-term and that's the catch-22.
Many in the past believe more provides more return and see growth early on. They keep this process going, and going and one day the penalties occur, and all drop right over the edge.
The gains are real and so are the risks... thus the first consideration is > "can I afford to lose my well established website by using many less established websites"
If the answer is > no... I highly recommend getting other "well established" website owners to link to you (where you have no control over the websites themselves).
17. Link back to very few of your funnel and farm sites.
I would be more paranoid and not link back to any of those sites. :)

21) Go for reciprocal links from those "Farm sites" to your competetion. If the farm goes down it takes along a few of your competetion with it ;)
Questions for DigitalGhost.
1) I assume by farm site you mean the sites which only interlink between themselves. And by funnel sites i assume you mean sites which give those one way links to your targetted sites. Am i right in my assumptions?
Nope. But I do have a yearly spend v. ROI. 90k per year for the farm. Don't even bother unless you have the potential to double that spend.

Correct. And the "farm" is the same group I recommend building blogs within. Put your free hosted sites in the farm and a few in the funnel. Think of the "farm" as a net to catch PR. Then stop thinking about PR, and start thinking about traffic that converts to sales. ;)
