Is this Linking Strategy ok?

In a pretty competitive term, this one website does very well. My question is: Are their link strategy ok to us or will they get in trouble? <snip>

If you have multiple sites with close themes but with differnet content, differnet urls, different host companies, etc. how should you link them correct?

You might want to do a forum search on 'crosslinking'. There are no simple answers, other than that it seems that Google at least are becoming stricter on what they perceive to be excessive crosslinking.

Simple rule of thumb to begin with - do the links really benefit users? - if the answer is no and they're just there to try and increase ranking, then yank 'em.

That said, lots of people have lots of success with creative use of who-is, domain registration, hosting and so on - just depends if you want to play short-term or long term.
