Would it be smart to set away a budget to purchase links?

Quick way to boost PR?

Since this is the best place to get no bs answers and great thoughts I pose this question.

Should SEOs start advising clients to set away some money in their budget (if its a decent size budget) to pay for incomming links from sites with high PR?

For certain sites this maybe the easiest and fastest way to grab some PR from other sites while increasing your link popularity on other engines. I don't know about anyone else but a few clients I do work for have trouble getting incomming links from sites that matter (in Google's eyes). The only way I could think of to really help them get pushed into the right direction would be to purchase some incomming links from higher ranked sites.

Yup - this is a good idea. Even if you're only setting the money aside for a yahoo listing. If you don't buy for all of it you can spend the surplus on PPC (or a drink or two, or whatever).

And aside from PR, remember that thing called "traffic".

We have paid for a few links, but not really for their PR, rather because we felt they would be a good source of traffic.

And PPC is also really paying for a link, just one that is for traffic not for PR.

Basically, yes, it's wise to allocate some funds for linking if your business depends on the Internet. if you can get traffic from several sources, you may not shrivel up and die if you suddenly disappear from Google for a month.

Happy drinking...er I mean Linking :)
