I'm new to this forum and fairly new to the internet, I'm a mortgage broker in the process of puting up a website.I have question for. I came across something on ebay offering to build me a 2000 links page directory to my site targeting particular root keywords that best describe my site. 20 root words x 100 most frequently searched on related keyphrases = 2000 pages, to generate traffic, what is this? I can sticky mail you the link, if you would like, to take a look so you can better explain what this is exactly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dean

Welcome to WebmasterWorld

If it was me I would run a mile from anyone offering anything like that, the word link farm jumps into my mind.

Try using the site search above and looking for "link farm" it should give you some useful information.

I'm sure others will come forward with possible other views on this

Not a good idea. If you look at the example directories the company has built - they are all PR0 in Google...

If you want to learn how to promote your site you need to stick around these forums.

Hi dean6409,
as already mentioned by the others, keep away from these tools.
When building your site you should concentrate on content first. Write pages that describe your product or service, mention your niche and your location (state, city). When you have put together a site with these basics, start getting links from sites that are already established. e.g your local chamber of commerce, customers websites etc. Submit also to DMOZ and Yahoo. Y! costs, but if your site qualifies and gets in, it soon gets spidered by other SE's.
Continue on expanding your site. Read Brett's popular post "Successful site with Google in 12 month" here in the forums.
And again, continue on expanding your site 1 page per day (easier said than done).
Good luck!
