linking a commrcial site

Hello Everyone,

I have so many questions, my client wants me to establish cross links, with portals and other commercial sites. He would like me to follow the same model as a competitor who has established an affiliate program using Link exchange paying a commission on every purchase.So I am contacting potential partners via email simply asking them to join is in partnership and that we will pay a commission for any thing sold thru our link. Is this a good strategy? I have so far received three bites.

I'm not sure if that will help your link-popularity since most affiliate links have tracking url's which includes a unique id or something like it, which often causes the spider not to follow the links.

Thak you for your reply, Does this mean I am wisest asking for reciprocal links, with no financial affiliation?
I am getting a pretty good response with my personal emails to reciprocal link.
