Here is the idea:

Build 100 Geocities site, each just a page of 500 - 1000 words with content related to your niche. Have all these pages link to your main website and stuff these links with keywords.

I know that this is stupid from a practical point of view, all that content will do better on your main website. But just in theory... What are your thoughts on this?

If you were to build all those websites on Geocities, it would be very easy for any of the search engines to smell a rat in no time at all. Waste of effort. Put the information on your site!

If you build 100 geocities sites and point them all to one website, then you will have 100 links from the same domain (geocities.com) to your site. This would not help your site nearly as much as 100 links from different domains.

No effect, because those 100 geocities sites are no ranked as fresh pages without link to them.

Anyway, if you put more than 1000 links from one site to another you might get Google penalties. It means - no traffic at all.

stop trying to "game" the system....
They've seen all (Most) of the tricks before...

make a great website, if you can't do it, and just rely on tricks....you probably shouldn't be there...

If you can't game SE's you shouldn't be in this thread. The thread is not about making great websites, rather, a specific link strategy.

To the point here. If you can get links to these geocities pages to get them indexed it will help some. Best move would be many links from many different free hosts/blogs. Or the same could be done from many sites on non-affiliated hosts.

Links from many different IP's works for every major search engine and has worked for as long as they have been around. It will not stop working anytime soon.

However, since all you have to do is build a great website, what's the point of this forum anyhow? :)

I have done this in the past. I created squeeky clean 4-5 page sites at geocities that would usually get accepted into DMOZ.

I then would point all these little sites to my various money sites to push them PR.

It worked very well in the past but since then I think links from the same domain/IP are discounted.

As mentioned by other your best bet is to spread the sites around to as many different hosts and sites as possible. Do very little interlinking and then point them towards yor main site. It's kind of a reverse pyramid structure.

Waste of time, trying to decieve the engines almost invariably ends up as a ban or problems.

Sure some webmasters are able to float high rankings on spamming with links in this manner, but it only takes time for the se's to figure out what you would be doing.

How did you manage to get such small sites into DMOZ?

The SE's ideally try to keep out all of the evil link-makers (us), but putting that into code is extraordinarily difficult and usually done spottily at best. I have had good success "gaming" the engines over the last three years. Just be careful and don't put tons of links from one domain like geocities and you should be okay. If you have a couple of geocities sites and couple others each from a lot of other domains, you should be fine.
