Blogs and RSS feeds for link building?

blogs, rss feeds, podcasts: legitimate sources for link building purposes?

I have read that links from blogs is not a viable way to increase a site's link popularity. Furthermore blog software now automatically adds the new nofollow tag so search engines do not follow links from blogs. Is this true, because I have also read that submitting blogs (and including a link to the site whose link popularity you are trying to improve, of course) can help a site's link popularity.

And can one use RSS feeds and podcasts for link popularity improvement?

NoFollow tags are mostly added to the url that you supply when you make a comment. But if you get link in a blog post or in a blog template then that counts

So, yes blogs, Podcasts, and RSS feeds can all be used to build up link popularity

A link is still a link and even if SE ignore them, many users will not.

Besides, one of my top-links is from a blog.

This is all useful to know, thanks. I have now been advised (outside this forum) that a good way to gain link popularity via blogs is to feed a good story (about your product or service) to bloggers, rather than writing blogs all over the place yourself. I'm still a bit stuck on how about one goes about 'feeding a story to bloggers' i.e. doesn't that entail writing a blog anyway? How do I find bloggers who may be interested in my story? What kind of search queries can I type into Google that will reveal good bloggers?
