Press releases

How do they benefit exactly?

I was checking a popular press release the other day and noted that while over 100 sites had the link to the article on their site, in each case the link pointed back at prweb.com

From that page there was a link to the site of the original poster but does he benefit? Is the idea that a small portion of the traffic arriving at the press release page will continue to his site?

Or is there some bonus for having 100 sites pointing at a page which links to your site?

Whereas with article submissions you can include a direct link back, the press release method seems to be of indirect benefit...

sounds like a classic example of a presell page.

yes, there are benefits. do a query on "presell page" for more explanation.

For most placements your presell page will be placed within an article or resource section, which is usually linked directly from the homepage.

So most sites will not have a link from the homepage directly to a presell page. Most sites are like this, where there will be a sitewide link to the "article" section (or library, etc section) and all of the pages within that section will link to each other.
