A software to monitor back links .

... to make sure they are still there

I've got an idea whereby people linking to a new site will get something for free on a recurring basis. I therefore need to make sure that the links are up all the time and not just when they know I will check them / when the freebee comes.

How do I monitor that those website link to me if the number of sites become unmanageable - over a 200/300 or so?

I thought of designing a piece of software working a bit like an SE spider - on one end I feed the URL's that it should spider to see if the link to my site is there - on the other it lists the code for the site that do (to check anchor text etc...) and the sites that don't have the link anymore.

The only problem is ... I have NO CLUE on how to do that.

Anyone knows how to build a search engine spider?

hmmm.I have something that does this. Maybe I might offer it for free, you just upload your backlinks in a file with the taget urls. I get your backlinks :)

I think I am giving away too much, but wouldn't there be interested in a website where you enter URL 1, enter URL 2, and it checks and emails you daily/weekly if URL 2 is in URL 1?

Because there are paid services like this, but I guess not one free.
