Is it worth submitting your search engine to? (If anything it will help your page rank I guess)....I see that it is powered by Gossamer Threads. Is it worth submitting to? (The reason I am a little leary is because it uses Gossamer Threads - does that program scour your site looking for all of your links.)
(I have absolutely no affiliation with them)
Overall, I think it would be better to have links from on-topic sites, i.e., if your site includes an auto industry search engine or directory, links from car sites might be more useful than this one. If you are desperate for linkage, it probably won't hurt. If you can control the title with your submission (that will be your link text), that would be a plus - include your most important keyword(s) in a logical title.
I don't know a whole lot about Gossamer Threads but I'm pretty sure that engine doesn't do that. It seems the site you pointed to didn't include the version of GT that they are using so I would assume it's probably the free version which just checks links in the DB and does not follow hyperlinks on the requestd pages. If I'm incorrect please let me know.
Can't believe you stumbled across topdirectories.com. I'm the owner and don't do anything to promote the site. Haven't updated it in awhile and just noticed I still have the year 2000 copyright - how embarrassing.
Created the site to help webmasters/owners locate additional search engines/directories to submit their site to. To help with link popularity and also as an additional source of traffic.
I feel bad that I have not had the time to keep up with the site. Add new resources as they are submitted, but haven't had the time to spend on the site that I should.
Will probably be discontinuing it soon, since I am unable to keep up with it. If anybody is interested in the site, let me know. Hate to see it go away completely.
In the meantime Bradly, don't worry about GT, as netcommr said, won't affect your indexing.

The referral out of GT 'Links' redirects through a click counter script, rather than direct (unless modified, which I rarely see done) so I don't think there's going to be much benefit as to the spiders of other engines.
As for spidering your site, Links doesn't. It does have a maintenance script that the admin can use periodically to see if the submitted url is still active, that's about it.
Thank you for the welcome! I was a previous member of WebmasterWorld, but couldn't get my username & password in sync, so I re-registered.
You are right in that Links does not spider your site. Admin panel will let you know if links in database are still active; just got to take the time to run the links verification every now and then. :-)
Thanks again for the kind welcome.
Not too comprehensive, I'd suggest www.searchengineguide.com
