I'm new to the area of reciprocal and portal linking and I've been advised that the first thing I should do is a Portal Link Audit before I develope a linking strategy. Can anyone please explain to me what a Portal Link Audit is and how or where to start. I apologise up front for my ignorance of the subject and thank you for your patience.

Welcome to WmW. A Portal Link Audit is where you find who is linked to you and how, which engines acknowledge those links and how, what type of credit you receive or not. You are looking at basic research>evaluation>analysis and then developing a strategy from the information you've gathered, as it pertains to links.

You are right to be looking in this direction and this is a very good topic to discuss. I hope others will jump in with suggestions on how you can approach this project.
