Hi,

What is the general view on adding your site to the to top 100 sites? are they a good idea or are the results skewed?

Thanks

If you can - do it. Key part of Hilltop / TrustRank.

Top 100 sites info can be got from Alexa (by industry).

I think there is a charge for the list.

Do you mean using one of the "Top 100 Widgets Sites" services that promise some traffic and statistics,

-or-

Getting your site listed on some of the top 100 most popular websites, or...?

or are the results skewed?

To decide that - look at how they are ranked and how you get into the list.

If you have to pay to enter the list, or give a link back, then it certainly isn't the top 100 sites. If it's ranked on who pays the most, who's 'turn it is', who sends the most return traffic, or who knows the list owner then it's skewed.

If it is a fair and comprehensive ranked guide of the 100 top sites in your sector then a good rank in that guide will do you nothing but good.

But sometimes you have to pay to get something good.

You get what you pay for - well, more or less. An entry in Microsoft is worth more than one in a 2nd tier wouldn't you say. But I wouldn't pay to get into an Alexa 'guide' as I don't see Alexa as that kind of thing - they aren't a guide operator.
