Hi all,

Can anyone tell me how their experiences in directory submissions has gone, i.e., which type of directories are worth the time and/or money? :

  • free ones (usually lesser quality, more time, but costs less) or
  • paid (usually higher quality, less time, but more money)?

IMHO, I think the free directories are worth the time, and that is why I have been using those. Some give decent PR, most are very low or none (not that its all that important). I have never had the need or desire before today to submit to paid directories.

I'd appreciate any thoughts or comments. Thanks in advance.

Paid directories aren't always a guarantee of quality.

The free ones can be better, as they have a point to prove...... I've been surfin the web for 7 years, and in that time I've seen some paid sites that look well, just awful - and naff traffic potential anyway, so pointless hehe.

You can always tell a good site, you want to look for:

Clean, simple design

Check the content

Check the extent of service to you/their visitors

Look at the industry and see if it's targeted to your visitors

Check the Newspapers and their site to see if they sent out a press release. They will have sent one out - if they are a serious lot.

This is really common sense stuff - so many false promises and scams out there, so just check who you're linking to.
