I launched 2 new completely different sites at around the exact same time. In effort to get new and quality incoming links I set out in search of quality on topic sites. The results quite different...

If I check on Yahoo today, site a has accumlated 3,030 links in 2 months. Not too shabby, I'm happy with that. Site B however, 9. Not gonna cut it.

Why the difference? I search out similar on topic sites and request a link swap, for some reason this works with Site A but not Site B.

Site A is more revolved around writing, and different writers like to read other writers and willingly link to them if good enough. I was a bit surprised at how many PR5 sites and a couple PR6 sites were willing to link to me , and google crawls me deeply and constantly because of it.

Site B is not in a competitive market by any means, less popular niche then site A, but why are the 2 sites developping so differently?

Is it just the subject matter? Are webmasters lazy in this niche? There is one authority site in this niche on the web, and they have linked to me already. A PR4 page. Other than that, I can't find much.

What other strategies can I use to get Site B linked to, and crawled like Site A.

That's an alarming amount of links to obtain in two months. I would be careful that you don't trigger some alarm bells with G.

Are all these links from recip's?

Mostly

but from sites with hundreds of pages of content

so 1 link on each page, but all from the same site

for several of the sites.

So divide it by the number of sites if you wish
It's more like a dozen or so large quality sites and several smaller ones.
