My website is around 4 months old, and in the first month I managed to get a few one-way links. Whilst I was working on the site, I managed to get around 1 or 2 inbound links per month so I'd say at this point I have aprrox 10 inbound links. A couple of weeks ago when Google done a page rank update, my site went from PR0 to PR3.
When I use the Google toolbar backlinks function, I can only see 2 links to my site. One of which, is a page on my own site linking to another page within my site.
A couple of questions...
1. Why do I only see 2 back-links if I actually have around 10 (which have existed for a few months now).
2. Why is one of my own pages that links to another one of my pages showing as a backlink?
3. I purchased a link from a well-known directory 3 days ago, how long should I expect for this to a) show up in the back-links b) affect my PR (if at all)
4. My main competitor has 550 back-links, I'd say 70% of these are his own pages pointing to other pages (like question 2). Are these relevant?
Hope someone can help, thanks in advance!
When using the backlink command, you are asking the engine to return all pages linking you. This will include your own pages if you have internal links. Internal links do contribute to overall link popularity. Generally they do not contibute as much as an external site linking to you.
Toolbar Pagerank (which is not real pagerank) normally updates once every few months. Google does not publicly disclose real pagerank.
